President Donald Trump has weighed in on the ongoing debate about the greatest basketball player of all time.

Michael Jordan or LeBron James?

LeBron James or Michael Jordan?

Who is the greatest of all time?

That debate has been an ongoing topic among NBA Twitter and the talking head shows on TV for years, and now President Trump is weighing in with his opinion.

While some people like to scream “stick to sports” or “keep politics out of sports” that’s not the case when it comes to President Donald Trump this week.

Trump got involved in the push to play a college football season in the fall amid ongoing concerns about the coronavirus and the long-term effects of those who test positive for it.

Next, he weighed in on the NFL and how he wishes the season won’t start if players continue to kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality. President Trump previously called players who kneel “sons of bitches.”

Then, Trump criticized the NBA for playing their games in a bubble in Disney World to protect its players, coaches and others from getting the virus so the season could resume and games would return to TV. Trump thinks the ratings are very, very bad and cites the NHL for doing a better job because they aren’t getting too political.

And now, Trump has weighed in with the NBA’s most prolonged debate: Who is the GOAT – Michael Jordan or LeBron James?

On Fox Sports Radio, Trump sided with Jordan, but not entirely for the reason you’d think.

“Well, I’ve seen them both. Michael Jordan is (the better player),” Trump said. “Plus, he wasn’t political so people liked him better.”

LeBron and Trump are basically rivals so this isn’t a surprise to see Trump siding with Jordan because he didn’t get political whereas LeBron certainly has. The Los Angeles Lakers star has been a vocal critic of Trump and his administration and Trump has been a vocal critic of LeBron, especially as it relates to LeBron’s comments on China earlier this year.

As a Chicago Bulls fan, this is one instance where I agree with the president. Jordan is the GOAT but LeBron is No. 2 and can make it a more compelling argument if he can lead the Lakers to a few championships before his career is over. For now, Jordan’s six titles trumps LeBron’s three.
