Patrick Mahomes agreed with Eric Bieniemy’s assessment of him

Most fans, writers, and observers seem to think that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ best attributes as a player are either his bazooka of a right arm or his ability to make plays outside of the pocket. However, if we’re to take offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy at his word, he values Mahomes’ drive and determination, as he called the superstar quarterback a “competitive prick.”

Mahomes didn’t disagree with what Bieniemy thought of him. In fact, he’s more than happy to accept that designation, as he loves to “have that fire” every single time he steps out on the football field.

Mahomes is looking somehow improve upon his 2019 season.

It’s hard to imagine a better first two seasons as a starter than what Mahomes was able to create over the last few years. After throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in Year 1, the former No. 10 overall pick overcame injuries to lead the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl win in 50 years.

The former Texas Tech star’s competitive fire could help the Chiefs repeat in 2020 after they brought the band back together. Not only did Brett Veach somehow manage to sign Mahomes to a massive extension worth up to $503 million, but he also retained star defensive tackle Chris Jones and tight end Travis Kelce by hooking them both on long-term deals.

If No. 15’s fire is able to rage on and motivate Kansas City in this unusual 2020 season, the Chiefs might end up back in the Super Bowl.

Rather than rest on his laurels, the reigning champ is gearing up for a 2020 season that could potentially be even better statistically. Even among star quarterbacks, that sort of competitive fire is hard to come by, and it’s a big reason why the Chiefs are set up to dominate for the next decade with Mahomes at the center of it all.
