Aaron Rodgers is linking up with Davante Adams frequently at Packers camp.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers might’ve been helped out on offense by the emergence of Aaron Jones at running back, but the wide receiver room isn’t much to write home about outside of Davante Adams. Knowing that he and the former Fresno State star will have to link up frequently this season, Rodgers wasted no time trying to get on the same page with his WR1.

Rodgers and his favorite downfield target are linking up early at Packers camp, as Rodgers punctuated a deep downfield bomb to Adams with an emphatic “suck it.”

Rodgers and Davante Adams both need tremendous 2020 seasons for the Packers to compete.

Adams recorded 997 yards receiving and five touchdowns, but he recorded those numbers in 12 games. His yards-per-game average was the second-highest of his career. Those numbers are even more impressive considering the dearth of options in the passing game that could’ve taken pressure off of him.

Green Bay’s 2020 draft was widely mocked, as they selected a backup quarterback in Jordan Love, a third-string running back in AJ Dillon, and a tight end/fullback hybrid in Josiah Deguara with their first three picks. Despite Allen Lazard currently assuming the de facto No. 2, Green Bay did not draft a wide receiver. Look for Rodgers to target Adams early and often in 2020.

Green Bay might’ve kept a lot of the same pieces from a team that went 13-3 and was one win away from the Super Bowl, but the fact that other contenders in the NFC have gotten so much better means that the Packers will have to fight and claw for every single victory in the 2020 season. When the chips are down, Rodgers will loom No. 17’s way, and their performance in practice means that both of them are eyeing a hot start in 2020.
