Sure, you know nothing about Austin Peay. But they should be your new favorite team

The Austin Peay Governors are the only politicians we can trust in 2020. Austin Peay is coming off a 9-4 season, and is trying to repeat as Southland Conference champions. They got off to a great start, as their first offensive play went for a 75-yard touchdown off the option.

That, however, wasn’t the highlight of the game for the Governors. Believe it or not, a random turnover to start the second half was far more exciting than a rushing touchdown to open the college football season.

The Governors, in the spirit of the Miami Hurricanes’ turnover chain, have their own ‘turnover tophat’. Yes, it’s glorious.

What is the turnover tophat, and how did it come about?

There is no real backstory to the turnover tophat yet, but we need to know more thanks to an interception from Jack McDonald. We assume the in-depth reporting has already begun given the lack of storylines around the college football landscape at the moment. However, it must have something to do with the Governors’ mascot, which looks similar to the monopoly man.

The country is starved for football, especially with the assumption that Power-5 conferences would have a tough time figuring out how to play a full season, or even a conference-only slate for that matter. Austin Peay-Central Arkansas is the only game slated for this weekend, so for those of us with a thirst for college football, learn to embrace FCS.
