Florida State football isn’t getting the respect they deserve this offseason. The Seminoles have the talent to make some noise in the ACC this year.

Despite going 11-14 over the past two seasons, Florida State football is being heavily underlooked as we inch closer to the start of the college football season.

Chip Patterson of CBS Sports was asked who he thought was being underrated in the ACC and he went with the Seminoles stating that they have potential at quarterback, key positions, and their head coach is going to help turn things around for them.

Overlooking Florida State would be a mistake, as they have the tools to contend.

The first thing Patterson pointed to when declaring Florida State as an underrated squad is quarterback James Blackman, who has had it pretty rough during his time as a Seminole. Blackman has seen multiple offensive coordinators and is on his third head coach since coming to Florida State, so obviously that’s going to make things tougher on a young quarterback.

Blackman was also pushed into a starting role sooner than he was ready for due to an injury to Deondre Francois two seasons ago, but he’s prepared now and that’s going to help this team out mightily.

Patterson mentioned that if Norvell and offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham can get the right pieces around Blackman, that’s going to make Florida State a much tougher out in the ACC. One name he brought up was Tamorrion Terry, who had 1,188 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last year. If he and Blackman can get on the same page, that could be a deadly duo.

Another name that Patterson discussed was defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, who surprisingly didn’t enter the draft and is returning to Tallahassee for his senior season. Wilson notched eight and a half sacks last year and is the anchor of this Florida State defense. He’s also become the leader on and off the field.

Florida State might not be anywhere close to what Clemson is, but they definitely deserve more respect than what they’re getting. Norvell gives them an aggressive head coach who knows how to win big games and that’s what this program has been missing in recent years.

Don’t rule out Florida State football exceeding expectations this fall and proving the skeptics wrong.
