Twitter had a field day making fun of Drew Brees’ arm strength during Monday Night Football.

If the New Orleans Saints truly care for Drew Brees, someone in the organization will take his phone and delete Twitter from it. He won’t want to look at social media any time soon.

During the Saints’ loss to the Raiders on Monday Night Football, the quarterback’s arm strength became fodder for a tidal wave of jokes.

It was merciless and hilarious all at once.

Let’s start with some actual numbers courtesy of ESPN Stats and Info.

Brees has averaged 4.82 air yards on his passes so far in 2020. No quarterback has averaged such a low number in two games since Brett Favre in 2009. Favre was 40 years old that season. It’s not a coincidence the 41-year-old Brees is producing similar numbers.

Of course, the internet is less concerned with the stats and more interested in the memes. There were a ton of them.

Matt Harmon of Yahoo! Sports skipped the Favre reference and went straight to Peyton Manning:

In fact, Manning took a ton of collateral damage on the night:

Pro Football Focus, who are normally consumed by numbers, went with a brutal Spongebob reference:

Keeping with the theme of childhood favorites being wielded as deadly weapons, Barstool came out swinging:

NFL Memes hit a few bombs on Monday night — certainly more than Brees managed:

For the record, PFF was able to back that criticism up. Brees was 5-of-9 on passes of 10 yards or more downfield. He attempted just one pass 20 yards or more downfield and that was incomplete. That means 28 of his pass attempts were for less than 10 yards.

But enough of that actual analysis. Let’s get back to the memes.

And this:

And another:

With Brees struggling, Derek Carr came out on top in his first game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. He completed 28-of-38 passes for 282 yards and three touchdowns.

Brees, by comparison, completed 26-of-38 for 312 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

In the grand scheme of things, Monday night wasn’t a horrendous performance for Brees. It was just lacking enough for Twitter to enjoy. And for the Jameis Winston conversation to begin.
