Skip Bayless sums up the emotions all Oklahoma football fans are feeling after knocking off Texas in four overtimes.

It’s hard to agree with Skip Bayless, but this is the rare instance where the Fox Sports talking head makes sense.

Oklahoma Sooners fans sat on the edge of their seats throughout their Saturday afternoon for four-plus hours, going through a whirlwind of emotions watching the football squad face off against the Texas Longhorns in the annual Red River Showdown. It was quite the rollercoaster ride, but the Sooners emerged victoriously in quadruple overtime, ending in the most un-Big 12 way imaginable: an interception.

Sooners fans no doubt feel relieved about how the team pulled out the miraculous win. If you wanted to get inside the mind of an Oklahoma fan, perhaps no one summed up their emotions more perfectly than…Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless? Seriously, it’s true!

Bayless brings up solid points about Oklahoma’s rivalry win

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger didn’t do his damage through the air like any quarterback would. Instead, he found Oklahoma’s weakness on defense: stopping the run. On the day, Ehlinger rushed for 112 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries. That’s just absurd!

Bayless says it best. While the Sooners couldn’t stop Ehlinger on the ground, they were able to stifle him in the passing game. The Longhorns starting quarterback completed 30-of-52 pass attempts for 287 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Of course, the final pick came in quadruple overtime by Oklahoma’s Tre Brown in the red zone to put an end to the contest once and for all.

College football fans are used to Oklahoma and Texas being highly ranked in the nation during their annual meeting. But this year matched the theme of 2020: chaos. Texas entered the contest ranked No. 22 with a 2-1 record, while Oklahoma entered unranked with a 1-2 record. Despite that, this game ranks above their recent meetings. Yes, even those very games with Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray or Jalen Hurts starting under center for the Sooners.

A bit of a fun fact, the 2020 edition of the Red River Showdown is the first-time it reached overtime since 1996, where the Sooners defeated the Longhorns 30-27 in overtime.

Oklahoma fans were riding high after seeing the Sooners destroy Missouri State 48-0 in their regular-season opener. Their past two games were nightmares, as Oklahoma ended up losing games they should have won against Kansas State and Iowa State. Instead, they blew those games in the second half and had to lick their wounds. yes, those two losses likely ended their hopes of making the College Football Playoff, they can take solace in the fact that their winning streak against Texas has extended to three games. There’s nothing sweeter than beating a division rival.

Finally, the biggest talking point of the game was the benching of Heisman Trophy-favorite Spencer Rattler. After throwing a touchdown pass to Marvin Mims in the first quarter, Rattler imploded the following two drives. Rattler threw an interception to DeMarvion Overshown first, followed by a fumble after he was tackled for a 10-yard loss. Head coach Lincoln Riley opted to bench him for the remainder of the second quarter so Rattler can calm down and ease his mind.

The move worked out tremendously for Oklahoma, as Rattler started in the second half and didn’t turn the ball over once! Rattler accounted for four touchdowns in the remainder of the game (three pass, one rush), including his game-winning touchdown pass to Drake Stoops in quadruple overtime.

Who’d have thought Bayless could dish out logical and rational takes? Is this real life? Or are we stuck in some alternate reality?
