The Green Bay Packers need to keep up with the Chicago Bears in the NFC North.

It’s amazing how quickly narratives can get flipped on their head in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers looked nigh unstoppable after five weeks, but a crushing loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has vaulted the 5-1 Chicago Bears to the top of the NFC North.

Green Bay needs to figure out what went catastrophically wrong against Tampa and what holes need to be plugged. These three trades could be both short and long-term fixes for this Packers roster.

The Packers need to make one of these three trades to bulk up before the deadline

Joe Burrow might be as exciting as ever, but there is very little to write home about elsewhere on that Cincinnati roster. The defense has been an especially barren cupboard over the past few years, with Lawson serving as one of the few bright spots given his ability to rush the quarterback.

While not a tremendous run defender, Lawson’s 3.5 sacks this year and 18 sacks over his 41-game career show that he can use his athleticism to bend the edge and make the quarterback uncomfortable. In the modern NFL, there is no such thing as having too many pass rushers.

While Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith are still the starters with Rashan Gary intermittently spotting the two, the Packers could use one more speedy athlete on the edge. A fourth-round pick might be a lot for a rotational rusher, but Lawson could instantly give the Packer defense a serious shot in the arm.
