Richard LeCounte was involved in a scary crash after the Kentucky game.

Kirby Smart has once again crafted one of the deepest, most efficient defenses in the league, and safety Richard LeCounte is right at the center of it all given his experience. After Georgia clawed out a win in a defensive struggle against Kentucky, the hearts of nearly everyone in Bulldog Nation came to a complete standstill after hearing some concerning news about their great safety.

LeCounte was involved in a serious motorcycle accident after the Kentucky game. According to sources, LeCounte, who was described as coherent and alert, suffered a concussion and injuries to his ribs, but not are considered to be long-term ailments or worthy of surgery.

Richard LeCounte is one of the best defensive backs in the entire country

LeCounte came into his third season as a starter as one of the country’s best defensive backs, and he has lived up to that billing so far. LeCounte has already intercepted three passes, and he dropped a fourth interception against Kentucky’s Joey Gatewood last week. LeCounte ended the game with a career-high 13 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Oregon’s Jevon Holland and Pitt’s Paris Ford make convincing cases, but there is a non-zero chance LeCounte is the first safety taken in the 2021 NFL Draft due to his athletic ability and experience in the SEC. While Georgia faces an uphill battle in terms of securing a playoff spot, LeCounte taking away a good chunk of the secondary with his range is an absolute necessity.

LeCounte could’ve easily seen his season ended and his pro potential drastically altered, but it seems like he will be able to make a full recovery sooner rather than later and get back on the field in Athens.
