Marcus Stroman is excited to be back with the Mets for another year.

The New York Mets are entering a new era under the ownership of Steve Cohen. He is seemingly committed to spending and bringing a winner back to Queens.

The first order of business was players entering free agency this season. Pitcher Marcus Stroman was extended a qualifying offer and it seemed like there would be no way he accepted it under previous ownership. However, Cohen got him excited and Stroman is back for another season. The pitcher tweeted out his excitement.

Stroman grew up in Long Island and seemed to be initially excited about joining the Mets in 2019. The results did not exactly follow and he missed the entire 2020 season after opting out following an injury.

He seemed to be out the door, until Cohen arrived. The new billionaire owner has cleaned house in the front office and has fans fired up after holding a press conference in which he expressed his desire to win. Being so rich allows him to show up and keep these promises.

Stroman clearly liked what Cohen had to say. Getting a one-year, $18.9 million deal also makes the decision easier after he missed all of 2020. The market may crater this offseason and he is ensuring he gets his money.

The 2020 Mets missed the postseason once again and it was time for some change. Cohen’s purchase hit some obstacles, but he finally took over and fans are feeling plenty of relief. Does spending a ton ensure a championship? No. However, it is better than the alternative of being a middling team with owners just trying to turn a profit. Stroman saw the change and will bring his energy to the new-look Mets in 2021.
