DK Metcalf’s resume for top target in the NFL on improved Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A wide receiver is a quarterback’s friend. A great one becomes the best friend to the gunslinger.

If that’s the case, DK Metcalf might have finally surpassed the great names of the past as Russell Wilson’s new best on his way to cementing his No.1 receiver status.

Metcalf made magic Monday night against the Philadelphia secondary during the Seahawks‘ 23-17 victory. Facing off against Darius Slay, a prime cover corner in the NFL, it looked more like Jake Paul  taking on Nate Robinson.

Completely unfair advantage to the youthful one.

Last season against Philly in the postseason, Metcalf has his best game in his young career, tallying nine catches for 160 yards and a touchdown. While the Eagles are far from a postseason contender, the second-year receiver has their number on speed dial. Metcalf surpassed that mark Monday with 10 catches for 177 yards and averaged 17.7 yards per play.

Three different times, Wilson proved that his deep-ball accuracy is one the league’s best, but Metcalf set up the moment. During the team’s drive in the second quarter, the Ole Miss alum bullied Slay into giving him the upper hand inside towards the far goal post. All Wilson. had to do was throw it up and trust his newest option was going to come down with it.

Signed, sealed delivered, he’s there making plays.

Metcalf’s outing has him thriving

On Sunday, Kansas City Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill picked up 269 yards off 10 catches while Travis Kelce tallied another 82. Entering the night, the duo ranked in the top spots for receiving yards with 1,021 for Hill and 978 for Kelce.

That’s now a thing of the past since Metcalf’s night gives him the league lead at 1,039. He also has 58 catches and eight touchdowns now through 12 games.

Take Metcalf out of the offense and is this even a game in favor of Seattle? Add all other receivers together and they finished with 59 yards on the evening. Plus, if it wasn’t for Metcalf’s ability to go deep, does David Moore or Chris Carson find the end zone?

In a game that should have been over in the second half, Seattle let Carson Wentz and the downtrodden Eagles offense stick around. The only difference between a win and a loss in a tight race for the NFC is Metcalf’s outing as Wilson’s safety net.

Now with a two-game lead in the division, Seattle should be able to cruise their way into the final month of action. As for defensive backs, start circling Metcalf as the man worth double coverage.

He may wear No.14, but he’s emerging as the next No.1 receiver all should fear facing.

Next. AJ Brown is a DK Metcalf stand and we're all for it. dark
