Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney through a bit of shade at Ohio State in regards to the College Football Playoff.

It is no secret the Ohio State Buckeyes are wanted in the College Football Playoff by the NCAA, Big Ten, networks, and so on. The team is only 5-0 and the Big Ten changed a rule to allow the Buckeyes to appear in the conference title game.

Dabo Swinney and Clemson have taken a different route this year. The Tigers are 9-1 and still favorites to make the Playoff as well. The head coach decided to make a point on a recent radio spot that he is not so sure the Buckeyes deserve a spot in the final four of the college football season.

Swinney makes a fair point about Ohio State

This is not a controversial opinion to have. The Buckeyes started the season late and will only end up playing five regular season games. The sixth will come in the Big Ten Championship Game against Northwestern. Ohio State also played a rather easy schedule and only beat Indiana by a final score of 42-35.

So the argument is there for teams like Florida and Texas A&M to get a spot over Ohio State, as Swinney mentions. Florida taking down Alabama in the SEC Championship Game would make that point even more clear.

Picking a four-team playoff has always been a bit controversial. Things are even more complicated in 2020 and the committee needs to pick the best teams while also being fair. Should Ohio State be punished for other teams canceling games because of COVID? That is a tough question to answer and one that is fair to discuss.

Every single year the team in fifth and sixth place usually have a gripe with the committee. A 6-0 Ohio State team making it in will provide the usual arguments during what is a unique year. The best thing for those teams behind the Buckeyes to do is keep winning and hope for a Northwestern win.
