Less than a month before the new year, perhaps this Lions defensive back is grateful his 2020 is over with.

Derrick Henry has long made opposing defenders look foolish, to the point such an authentic stiff arm against the Detroit Lions in Week 15 comes as no surprise to those who watch or cover him on a game-by-game basis.

Henry and the Titans are looking to notch yet another win in their quest for a playoff spot and AFC South title. On a basic running play to the left side, Henry opted to make an impression on Detroit’s defense on his way to the sidelines.

It might be unfair to call that Henry swat a stiff arm

Under normal circumstances, it’s natural for a running back to make contact on his way out of bounds. It sends a message to the opposing defense that he’s not merely avoiding contact. For Henry, though, it has more to do with his steady approach of waring a defense down over the course of a football game Against the Lions, we’d give it until the third quarter, if that.

Henry’s recorded 1,500 yards and 15+ rushing touchdowns in back-to-back seasons, joining an exclusive group of backs to do so. While the shelf life of running backs is notoriously short these days, Henry has made a rather large splash during his time at the pinnacle of his game, and for that, we are thankful.

Now get the hell out of his way.
