Everything Dabo Swinney said after Clemson’s Sugar Bowl loss: ‘Ohio State kicked our butts’
Dabo Swinney was short and succinct with his post-game quotes after Clemson lost to Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl.
It was a night to forget for Dabo Swinney and Clemson football fans. The Sugar Bowl did not go the way of the Tigers who lost for the first time to the Ohio State Buckeyes and lost in a big way, falling 49-28.
Clemson was really out of the game after the second quarter and was unable to mount much of a comeback effort in the second half. This marks only the second loss in the last three years for Clemson and denied their attempt at a third national title under Swinney’s watch.
Swinney was boastful leading up to the game — which he always is — but his bristling of Ohio State who he ranked at No. 11 in his Coaches Poll and questioning their place in the College Football Playoff after playing six games seemed to be extra motivation for Ryan Day’s Buckeyes. He had no regrets after the game.
Justin Fields threw six touchdowns in the best game of his career and withstood a vicious shot to the ribs/hip from James Skalski that saw him ejected for targeting.
After the game, Swinney gave all the credit to Ohio State for their performance and the win and flat-out said, they got their butts whooped.
