Could the Cleveland Browns’ season be coming to an end?

Congratulations to the Cleveland Browns on having a double-digit win season for the first time in over 15 years. Too bad that’s not enough to guarantee a playoff spot.

With a loss last weekend to the New York Jets, Cleveland now needs to make sure they stay strong all four quarters in the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Anything other that that and it could mean another year without a postseason nod.

The Browns stalled last weekend after losing all four of their starting receivers. Baker Mayfield regressed immensely in the passing game, having three fumbles on the afternoon. Meanwhile, Cleveland’s defense allowed Sam Darnold to look the part of franchise quarterback for the second time this season.

The COVID-19 protocols have been one of the biggest problems’s for Cleveland’s playoff chances. Once again, the week concluded with the facility being closed down and practice being held online.

The Browns will earn their first playoff appearance since 2002 with a win against Mason Rudolph and the Steelers second-string offense. There are other routes for Cleveland to make the postseason, but a win would end the NFL’s current longest drought at currently sits at 18 years.

Ben Roethlisberger won’t be the only Steelers starter missing action Sunday.  Edge rusher T.J. Watt, defensive tackle Cam Heyward and offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey will all be healthy scratches as the AFC North winner rests up for the AFC playoffs beginning next week.
