Patrick Mahomes’ word is pure gold, meaning a team should hire him as their head coach.

Another day, another closed door. That is the story of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in the NFL trying to get a head coaching job.

Seven teams fired their head coaches following the 2020 season. Six positions have been filled with the announcement of the Philadelphia Eagles electing to go with Colts’ offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni.

Bieniemy has interviewed for six of the openings in the first round. The Houston Texans are his only shot left this hiring cycle.

Multiple players and coaches have spoken highly of Bieniemy’s qualifications that would make him a fine candidate for any team. However, Patrick Mahomes‘ voice speaks volumes after three years working with him that included an MVP and Lombardi Trophy.

If you ask Mahomes, there should be no question that Bieniemy would achieve greatness as the head coach somewhere in 2021.

“It’s crazy, would be the best word to describe it,” Mahomes told reporters. “To see the stuff that comes out and then knowing the man that he is and the coach that he is every single day, you don’t understand where the stuff comes from.

“And so, it’s crazy that he hasn’t gotten his chance to become a head coach.”

Will Bieniemy get his chance in 2021?

The Texans and Bieniemy make plenty of sense due to the connection of Deshaun Watson. The franchise quarterback down in NRG Stadium has made it clear that the Chiefs OC would be his top selection this season.

Bieniemy recently interviewed with Houston earlier this week in preparation for the AFC Championship game. Perhaps a second interview will be coming following elimination to the Buffalo Bills or post-Super Bowl LV.

“It’s always good to be mentioned and have an opportunity to pursue your dreams,” Bieniemy told reporters. “And obviously, yes, I do want to be a head coach. But when it’s all said and done with, my job is to make sure everything that we’re doing right now is not to take away from the goals we’re trying to accomplish.”

Since taking over for Matt Nagy, Bieniemy and the Kansas City offense have averaged 415.8 yards per game and had the top offense in the league in 2018 and 2020. They finished sixth in 2019 and second in passing.

Mahomes’ word seems like the seal of approval. Now the question is, will the Texans allow Bieniemy to sign on the dotted line?
