The Kansas City Chiefs might have won, but they had some terrible news on the status of Eric Fisher.

The Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a night to remember on Sunday with their win 38-24 over the Buffalo Bills to secure a spot in Super Bowl LV. Patrick Mahomes was on point once again and the defense made several critical stops to prove their status.

While there’s plenty to celebrate, there’s also a reason for concern. Starting left tackle Eric Fisher left early in the fourth quarter with an Achilles injury. He did not return to help his team celebrate another AFC title.

According to early reports, it’s not looking promising for the Pro Bowl tackle to return in time for their matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In fact, it might be worse than anyone has thought.

Could this be problematic for the Chiefs against Tampa Bay?

Kansas City’s offense will be able to put up points, but can they protect Mahomes? One look in Lambeau Field showed fans of the Green Bay Packers what not having a franchise left tackle would do. With David Bakhtiari out, Tampa Bay feasted on Aaron Rodgers, collecting five sacks on the evening.

Kansas City is already down two starting offensive linemen with Mitchell Schwartz and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif electing to opt-out. The overall pass protection has been limited in that sense.

Could it be limited again?

Based on early reports, Chiefs fans shouldn’t expect Fisher to be on the sidelines ready to play at Raymond James on Feb. 7. That could be the difference between hoisting another Lombardi Trophy and just showing up for a battle against a home-grown crowd.
