Jamaal Williams will be headed to a new team after the Green Bay Packers re-signed Aaron Jones.

Entering the 2021 offseason, it was clear the Green Bay Packers would have to part ways with one of their two prime running backs. Many believe that Aaron Jones would be the one to leave as two productive seasons would make his value too high.

Instead, it looks like Jamaal Williams is the odd man out.

The Packers and Jones agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth $48 million, including a $13 million signing bonus, per reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Although the free agent market was expected to be high for Jones after his breakout season, he elected to take less to remain with the Packers.

Williams now will be looking for a new team following the signing. Although he wanted to play again with Jones, the NFL is a business, meaning he’ll have to find a new place to continue his story.

Williams posted a goodbye to his Instagram for the fans of Green Bay, thanking them for four unforgettable years with the franchise.

Where could Williams land next?

A fourth-round pick in 2017 out of BYU, Williams recorded 2,946 total yards and scored 18 total touchdowns during his time in Green Bay. Although used as a three-down runner, Williams said he views himself as a three-down back wherever he lands next.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the New York Jets could be a team interested in adding a running back this offseason. Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur both came from the San Francisco 49ers, which were known for using multiple running back sets.

In his final season with Green Bay, Williams earned $2.13 million. The Jets currently have the third-most cap space entering official free agency with $68.4 million.

NFL teams are always looking to add affordable runners. After a successful career with the Packers, Williams might be willing to take a less deal to show he is a true No.1 one back in the league for years to come.
