Bears see Super Bowl odds plummet after Andy Dalton signing

The Chicago Bears’ chances of winning the Super Bowl this season have fallen severely since they signed veteran quarterback Andy Dalton.

What a disappointing day for Chicago Bears fans.

Pipe dreams of Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson have vanished with the blink of an eye. Chicago reportedly made an aggressive effort to go after Wilson but was met with resistance by Seattle.

Before toying with the idea of signing Jameis Winston or Ryan Fitzpatrick, the team agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with former Dallas Cowboys/Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. Dalton has a 74-66-2 record as a starter in his career. He’s thrown for 33,746 yards and 218 career touchdowns.

The Bears seemed to be just a couple of pieces away from returning to Super Bowl contention but have now very clearly regressed. Their odds of returning to the big game look much worse today than they did yesterday.

According to ESPN’s David Bearman, the Bears’ Super Bowl odds went from 40-1 to 50-1 after signing Dalton on Tuesday. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone given the fact that the Windy City was supposed to have a dual-threat quarterback this season.

Ouch. That has to make Dalton feel pretty bad.

The Bears will still likely have to draft a quarterback this year as the Mitchell Trubisky era proves to have been an epic fail. The 33-year-old Dalton is nearing the end of his NFL career and will have to do his best to just keep the Bears afloat this season.
