Oregon State became the latest double-digit seed to join the fraternity of heavy underdogs to reach the Elite Eight in March Madness.

Historic upsets have been the theme of March Madness this year and that trend continued today when Oregon State upset Loyola-Chicago to reach the Elite Eight. The Beavers, a 12-seed out of the Midwest Region, have become just the second team seeded that low to reach the Elite Eight in the history of the NCAA Tournament.

There have been plenty of memorable underdog stories in the history of March Madness, including George Mason’s stunning Final Four run in 2006 and VCU’s journey from the First Four to the Final Four in 2011. Oregon State is currently tied with the 2002 Missouri Tigers for the lowest seed ever to reach the Elite Eight, a feat that could be surpassed if Oral Roberts stuns Arkansas in their Sweet 16 matchup.
