Michigan basketball fans got the news they didn’t want to get about Isaiah Livers.

It wasn’t surprising but it was deflating all the same. Michigan basketball will be without Isaiah Livers for the rest of the season.

The news was delivered by Tracy Wolfson ahead of Michigan’s Sweet 16 showdown with Florida State. It was the expectation when Livers was initially ruled out indefinitely and not much time remaining in the season for him to recover in time to play.

Not even a trip to the Final Four and national championship game would have been enough time for Livers to be healthy enough to rejoin his teammates.

Livers has been out since suffering the injury against Maryland in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament with a stress injury to his right foot.

After fighting through injury last season, Livers returned for his senior season to start every game for the Wolverines before the injury ended his Michigan basketball career.

The 6-foot-7 forward averaged13.1 points, six rebounds and two assists while shooting 43.1 percent from 3-point range.

With Livers out of the lineup last year and in the Big Ten Tournament, Juwan Howard’s team struggled. However, with the NCAA Tournament underway, Chaundee Brown has been a spark the team sorely needed. Brown was a huge lift in the Round of 32 win over LSU where he had a plus-19 when he was on the court and scored 21 points.
