UConn women’s basketball is advancing to the Final Four for the 13th straight year after Paige Bueckers and the Huskies survived the upset bid by the Baylor Lady Bears.

UConn and Baylor delivered the best game in either the men’s or women’s NCAA Tournament with the Huskies prevailing with a 69-67 win over the Lady Bears.

UConn advances to the Final Four for the 13th straight year.

The two teams were supposed to have met earlier in the season but the game was canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Baylor women’s basketball program.

Here are three pretty wild things that happened in the game that fans will be talking about the rest of the week.

3. Freshman phenom Paige Bueckers continues to get buckets

UConn found themselves down 10 in the third quarter, a position they hadn’t found themselves in often. But like she’s done so often this season, Paige Buekers found another level to tap into.

After getting the best of fellow freshman phenom Caitlyn Clark and Iowa, Bueckers had to dig deep to help UConn ultimately get the win over Baylor.

She led the Huskies on an insane run to get them back into the game after being down double digits in the fourth quarter. Despite missing her last five shots from the field to end regulation, Bueckers finished the night with 28 points. She made the game-winning steal as time expired for the 69-67 win.

2. Baylor’s Dijonai Carrington almost did it all by herself

Grad transfer Dijonai Carrington had her fingerprints all over this incredible Elite 8 matchup. She was an absolute monster on the boards and made life a living hell for Bueckers and the Huskies with her energy and tenacity.

She brought the Bears within three with less than a minute to play and had a drive to the basket as time was about to expire but was not rewarded with a questionable foul call. The senior finished with 20 points, seven boards, three assists and two steals in the tough loss.

1. UConn’s 19-0 run after DiDi Richards was injured was the turning point

UConn got their first assist since the first quarter with just over 1:30 left in the third quarter. Baylor led 55-45 with 2:13 left in the 3rd quarter after Moon Ursin made a jumper. Then, Bueckers started the 19-0 run as the Huskies looked like they’d go from trailing by double-digits to winning by double-digits.

With Baylor senior DiDi Richards forced to leave after sustaining an injury, Bueckers did what she’s done so well all season, get buckets. The freshman had 10 of the Huskies’ 19 points in that run to help give them the lead once again, one that they would not relinquish.

It came down to the final shot and a questionable non-call, but this game delivered a national championship game-worthy performance.

Geno Auriemma and UConn will play the winner of tonight’s game between Arizona and Indiana.
