Oklahoma basketball: Loyola Chicago’s Porter Moser will become new head coach
After a successful stint as the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers’ head coach, Porter Moser takes his impressive resume to Oklahoma.
Loyola-Chicago head coach Porter Moser was considered one of the brightest minds in college basketball and now is on the move to the University of Oklahoma.
The head coach of the Ramblers takes his impressive resume, which includes a trip to the Final Four in 2018, to the Big 12 in hopes of bringing the Sooners back to prominence on the hardwood.
Moser’s run to San Antonio brought team chaplain Sister Jean into the national spotlight, although it’s hard to forget just how efficient that team was. Additionally, the Ramblers were the first team in this past NCAA Tournament to eliminate a No.1 seed after beating Illinois in the second round.
After runs to the Final Four and Sweet Sixteen, Loyola Chicago head coach Porter Moser has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach of Oklahoma, per sources.

Moser helped put the Ramblers back on the grand stage.
Before gaining national prominence, Moser was largely an unknown due to a below 0.500 record at Illinois State. Additionally, his early time at Loyola-Chicago was largely underwhelming. However, following the run to the Final Four, the Ramblers endured success, and Moser was largely responsible.
Porter Moser has the requisite credentials to bring Oklahoma back to its successful roots.
There’s no question that the Sooners need help, and Porter Moser can provide that. Following the Sooners run to the Final Four in 2016, falling to eventual champion Villanova, the same level of success ceased to exist.
While the Sooners were certainly competitive, that doesn’t translate to victory. Moser can provide a necessary spark. Furthermore, with Chris Beard leaving Texas Tech to join Texas, the Red River Rivalry just got a bit more interesting. The Ramblers will be forever grateful to Moser for bringing them back to the national spotlight. But all good things come to an end. One journey has ended for Porter Moser, and the other has just begun.
