Patrick Mahomes lost his mind over UCLA-Gonzaga nail-biter

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was watching with bated breath along with the rest of the college basketball world as UCLA and Gonzaga had an epic battle.

The first Final Four game of 2021 was a dud thanks to Baylor blowing out Houston. The second more than made up for it with Gonzaga and UCLA providing all the fireworks college basketball fans could want.

Count Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes among the viewers at home glued to their televisions, watching in awe of the two college basketball powerhouses putting on a show.

When Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs hit the game-winning buzzer-beater from half-court, Mahomes lost his mind.

He said it, and we were all thinking it. Suggs’ incredible shot was a fitting end to what had been a marvelously entertaining game.

Mahomes was there for the whole ride.

Even before the buzzer-beater, Suggs had caught Mahomes’ eye.

Mahomes was referring to Suggs’ huge block to deny UCLA on one end and a piercing pass to setup Drew Timme for a fastbreak slam.

Mahomes is uniquely qualified to comment on incredible feats of athletic ability. He’s made a career of doing it on the football field. Greatness recognizes greatness.

Suggs and the Bulldogs were certainly great on Saturday night. Suggs finished with 16 points, five rebounds, six assists, two steals, and that epic block. Drew Timme also made the most of the stage with 25 points, while Joel Ayayi put up 22.

The Bruins were also plenty great, pushing the No. 1 overall seed to the limit. Johnny Juzang led his team with 29 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a gritty effort.

The national title will be decided on Monday between Gonzaga and Baylor. It’ll be tough to get a bigger reaction out of Mahomes, but they can try.
