As the 2021 NFL Draft nears, teams are prepping for their future of the organization. Some prospects will be drafted early to start by Week 1. Others will be viewed as projects or “long-term” options to replace veterans with expiring contracts.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be going through a rebuild in 2021. Like it or not, Zach Ertz will be a part of the staff that isn’t viewed as a part of their future.

The two sides have appeared destined for a split ever since extension talks ended before the start of last season. Even before the team elected to strain their relationship with Carson Wentz, it was clear the extension stalling  put a strain on  Ertz’ tenure in the City of Brotherly Love as well.

Entering April, it has been reported that the team will allow Ertz to look for a trade partner. For GM Howie Roseman, trading the Pro Bowl tight end before April 29 will be essential to garner selections.

NFL Rumors: Where could Zach Ertz land next season?

Earlier this month, NFL Insider Tony Pauline reported that the Indianapolis Colts would be interested in Ertz after the team added Wentz via trade this offseason. The problem comes down to price. Roseman is hoping for a high-end offer for the 30-year-old despite a drop-off of production.

In 2020, injuries and lack of chemistry with Jalen Hurts led to Ertz having a career-worst season. He finished the campaign with 36 catches for 335 yards (9.3 yards per catch) and a touchdown.

Barring a late third-round pick, the value price for Ertz likely comes as a Day 3 pick. Perhaps if a team is desperate enough and believes they can fix Ertz to play at a Pro Bowl form, Roseman could ask for an early fourth-round selection.

The Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers all could look to upgrade their tight end role for their passing attack. A surprise team would be the Cincinnati Bengals, who hope to see former No.1 pick Joe Burrow enter the All-Pro caliber conversation in Year 2.

Naturally, if Frank Reich and Wentz think the chemistry of 2017 can return in Lucas Oil Stadium, they too would be well in the mix.

Ertz’s time is likely up with the Eagles. The question now is where he will land in 2021 and he’ll be traded before or during draft weekend at the end of the month.
