The Baylor football team shows its respect to the men’s hoops team for winning it all Monday.
As the men’s basketball team went on to win its first national championship in program history, note Baylor football players showed their support for the Bears on Twitter.
Baylor had won the Big 12 regular-season championship for the first time since 1950. While the Bears bowed out to the Oklahoma State Cowboys early in the Big 12 Tournament, they were able to earn a No. 1 seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Six wins later, the Bears have done the unthinkable under head coach Scott Drew and finally won a national title. What an amazing run.
Drew took over a program in shambles in 2003. Not only did he return the basketball program to a level it had not experienced since the year immediately following World War II, but he took it to new heights as well. Baylor defeated Hartford, Wisconsin, Villanova and Arkansas to reach the Final Four. After handling Houston, the Bears embarrassingly previously undefeated Gonzaga.
Baylor football was all about Baylor basketball winning a national championship
In one of the very best conferences in the country, it was Baylor who first presented itself as a serious national title contender. Even if it was a down year for Kansas in Big 12 country, if you saw Baylor playing earlier in the season, you had a feeling that this type of run was inside of them.
April 5th has proven to be a great day for Baylor Bears in Indianapolis!

Despite being a private school in Waco, Texas, Baylor has more than held its own from an athletic standpoint. The women’s program is always top-tier under Mulkey. Even in the wake of the Art Briles, the football team is only two years removed from nearly making the College Football Playoff under Matt Rhule. Aranda has the Bears program trending in the right direction again.

Overall, this season finally made us realize how incredible of a program builder Drew has been at Baylor for the better part of two decades. While everybody and their brother believed Gonzaga would win it all without suffering a loss, Drew’s Bears attacked this season ferociously with the competitiveness of a sure-fire champion. Nobody will question this national title, not a soul.
Congratulations to Drew, all the Bears players and everyone who supports Baylor athletics.
