The Kansas City Royals took the second half of their doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays thanks to Salvador Perez’s 459-foot walk-off home run.

All walk-off home runs are great, but there’s something extra delightful about an absolute blast to end a game in the final inning.

Salvador Perez obliged on Saturday with a 495-foot rocket to give the Kansas City Royals a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The mere sound of that sweet contact made it clear the ball was going over the wall.

Salvador Perez came up big when the Royals needed him

Perez’s blast was his fourth of the season and his second in three games. His bat couldn’t have come alive at a better time. The Royals dropped the first game of the doubleheader 5-1 and were in danger of heading to extra innings. There was no need once Perez stepped up to the plate.

The six-time All-Star had Tommy John surgery in 2019 and won a Silver Slugger in his return last season. So far in 2021, he’s coming good again, batting .302 after signing a massive extension.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the second, but KC found two runs in the third via an error to score Jarrod Dyson and a double driving home Andrew Benintendi. Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s sacrifice fly scored Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to even things up in the fourth.

Because of the doubleheader format, the two teams played to the seventh.

The win will keep Kansas City firmly in first place in the AL Central, taking advantage of a rough weekend for other teams in the division. The Cleveland Indians lost their second-straight to the Cincinnati Reds. The third-place Chicago White Sox lost to the Boston Red Sox. The Minnesota Twins had their game with the Los Angeles Angels postponed because of COVID-19. The Detroit Tigers fell to the Oakland Athletics for the third time.
