Hockey Hall of Famer Clark Gillies was so pumped during Game 4 between the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins, that he smashed a beer can over his head.

The New York Islanders gave it their all in Game 3 on Thursday night, but they lost to the Boston Bruins on a game-winning goal by winger Brad Marchand in overtime. With the team down two games to one in the series, the Islanders faithful were far from dejected during Game 4 on Thursday night, and that can be thanks to a certain Hockey Hall of Famer.

During Saturday’s game, Clark Gillies was placed on the jumbotron inside Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, seen cheering on his beloved Islanders. He then grabbed a beer can, chugged it, then smashed said can over his head to pump up the crowd during New York’s 4-1 win over Boston.

Clark Gillies not the only one spotted smashing beer cans during Game 4 between the Islanders and Bruins

As it turns out, the former Islanders captain was not the only one smashing beer cans during the pivotal Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup. New York Jets offensive lineman Dan Feeney was spotted chugging a beer can and smashing it over his head, with his teammates cheering him on. Feeney previously did this during one of New York’s first-round games against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Islanders dominated the third period against Boston. With the game tied at one goal apiece, center Mathew Barzal helped New York pull away with a score at the 13-minute mark. Forward Casey Cizikas scored the empty-net goal with a little over a minute remaining in regulation, followed up with a score by Jean-Gabriel Pageau with three seconds left on the clock.

No matter how Game 5 goes, the Islanders will be hosting Game 6 from the Coliseum. Expect there to be plenty of beer drinking that contest, especially if New York ends up clinching a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals for the second-consecutive season.
