NFL insider suggests Cowboys could ink Richard Sherman as more than a player

Could the Dallas Cowboys end up signing Richard Sherman, but also have him serve as an assistant coach? 

One of the most intriguing free agents still out on the open market is no question veteran cornerback Richard Sherman. The defensive back has been linked to several squads, including the Dallas Cowboys.

However, could Sherman end up making his way to Arlington as a player/coach? As off the wall as that seems, the USA Today’s Nate Davis seems to think that’s a possibility. Never count out Jerry Jones from doing the unthinkable, though.

“Might loquacious free agent cornerback Richard Sherman, who played for (Dallas defensive coordinator Dan) Quinn in Seattle, latch on with the Cowboys after expressing a desire to continue his career with a contender … and maybe in a place where he could serve as a player-coach given his experience in this scheme? Don’t rule it out,” Davis wrote in a USA Today piece.

Sherman is eyeing his 11th campaign in 2021 this upcoming fall, spending the first seven years of his brilliant career with the Seattle Seahawks before joining the San Francisco 49ers. While with Seattle, Sherman was without question one of the best cornerbacks in the game. With his trash talking, he also did amazing work getting in the opposition’s head on a consistent basis.

Despite his best days being behind him, Sherman could still make quite the impact for a team’s secondary. Will he end up linking up with the Cowboys? That’d be something to see for sure. Also, if Davis is correct and Jones does sign him to be a player/coach, it’d really be a move that no one saw coming entering the offseason.
