Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is still understandably furious with the Yankees fan who hit Alex Verdugo with a baseball from the stands.

While New York Yankees fans are known for being some of the most die-hard, passionate groups out there, there’s simply no excusing what happened in the Bronx this weekend. In the series going up against the Red Sox, you just knew tension would be high.

Well, one fan took things too far, as he threw a ball from the stands and it pelted outfielder Alex Verdugo. That fan of course was thrown out of the park. Alex Cora is still furious with what happened, making that clear with his latest quote.

Alex Cora could not be more disappointed with the Yankee fan who hit Alex Verdugo with a ball

“I know what I did in ’17, I disrespected the game,” a disappointed Cora said. “But one thing I learned last year is that this is just a game. It’s a game. It’s not life and death. The fact that people come to the ballpark and throw a baseball at a player – I was in shock that happened.”

It’s easy to understand why Cora had this reaction. It’s completely unacceptable for fans to throw things at the players, especially a baseball. Had this hit Verdugo in the head, he could have suffered a serious injury. He was lucky to avoid such a thing.

Meanwhile for that young man who threw the ball, he’ll be lucky if he’s allowed back at Yankee Stadium this season. Heck, he might even be banned for life after deciding to try and pull off this kind of a stunt.

While fans can do all the heckling they want, throwing objects at players in the middle of the action is a big no-no. People must be smarter than this.
