With Jacob deGrom going to the Injured list, the New York Mets need to make a move ahead of the trade deadline.

The unlucky campaign of injuries has continued for New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom. This weekend, he had another setback, as the superstar starting pitcher was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a forearm injury.

With the MLB trade deadline coming at the end of the month, the New York front office needs to be aggressive and go after a starting hurler. While deGrom’s injury isn’t expected to keep him out for the long haul, all these injuries really are starting to add up. With that said, there’s multiple guys the Mets could try and trade for.

3. Matthew Boyd

On the list is of course Detroit Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd. The lefty seems to be mentioned in trade rumors every season and this year is no different. Boyd is 3-6 on the year, but he’s sporting a respectable 3.44 ERA.

Detroit has disappointed this campaign, as they’re 42-51 on the year. With the team rebuilding for the future, they could potentially get some quality prospects in return from the Mets for him. Boyd is a veteran left-handed starter. That kind of arm in your rotation is of course huge, especially once the postseason rolls around.

A trade between the Mets and Tigers for Boyd really makes sense for both parties involved. Boyd would be a great addition to the Mets staff. New York is currently in first place of the NL East standings, two games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Again, deGrom isn’t expected to miss significant time, but if he keeps battling these injuries late in the year or in the playoffs, it could spell trouble for the team. Going out and landing a quality arm like Boyd’s could prove to be monstrous for them.
