Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is dealing with a shoulder injury commonly found in baseball players.

The Dallas Cowboys began their offseason putting their full trust in quarterback Dak Prescott, as evidenced by his monumentally huge contract. But at the start of training camp, Prescott has been sidelined with a shoulder injury that many felt was not too serious. But a new report indicates that that is not the case.

According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, Prescott has been dealing with shoulder injury that “is more of a baseball injury.” The Cowboys feel that he will be ready for Week 1, but they have been in contact with the Texas Rangers‘ training staff to get help on how to treat the injury.

Cowboys: Dak Prescott’s shoulder injury ‘more of a baseball injury’

Earlier this week, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said that Prescott had “taken a step back” from his shoulder strain and will sit him out to avoid it becoming “something bigger.” Now, this latest report is describing Prescott’s ailment as a “baseball injury.” While Cowboys fans may be nervous, the team is confident he’ll be on the field for the 2021 season.

The Cowboys learned last season just how difficult things can be without Prescott starting under center. In a Week 5 matchup against the New York Giants, Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle during a scramble attempt. He was ruled out for the remainder of the season, and the Cowboys finished the campaign with a 6-10 record.

Even while coming off this season-ending surgery, the Cowboys and Prescott agreed to terms on a four-year, $160 million contract. That is how much faith the Cowboys had in Prescott’s ability to lead the team to what they hope is a trip to the Super Bowl soon.

While Prescott is dealing with an injury typically seen more in MLB than in the NFL, the Cowboys fully expect him to be suited up and starting under center for their Week 1 matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
