Javy Baez gets thumbs up for acting skills on Mets double play (Video)

After a hellish week, the New York Mets may end up with an Oscar thanks to some terrific acting from second baseman Javy Baez.

The New York Mets have had a hellish week. From the “thumbs down controversy” surrounding second baseman Javier Baez and shortstop Francisco Lindor, to general manager Zack Scott being placed on administrative leave after being arrested on a DWI charge on Tuesday morning. But, the Mets may have an Oscar heading their way thanks to the acting skills of Baez.

In the top of the fifth inning of Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins, Bryan De La Cruz hit a fly ball into right field with Jorge Alfaro on base. Michael Conforto then threw the ball to first baseman Pete Alonso for the double play, all because Baez deked Alfaro. Take a look for yourselves.

That is quite the acting from Baez, who completely tricked Alfaro on a routine fly ball into right field. Following the double play, pitcher Carlos Carrasco struck out Sandy Alcantara on three pitches to end the inning and to preserve their 3-2 lead.

Let’s just say that Mets fans will definitely give this play from Baez a “thumbs up.”
