Kirby Smart rolled with Stetson Bennett, and he came up huge for the Georgia football team.

With normal starting quarterback, JT Daniels dealing with an injured oblique, Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart rolled the dice by asking “The Mailman” Stetson Bennett to deliver the post on Saturday: Oh yeah, he did.

Not knowing he was going to start until minutes before kickoff, Bennett went under center and lit up the UAB Blazers. He connected on his first six passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns.

Of his four touchdown passes in the first half, three of them went for over 60 yards. The 28-point cushion allowed for Carson Beck to get some run at quarterback, who many thought would start.

For a coach defined by poor quarterbacking decisions, Smart rolled the dice and came up big.

The Mailman delivers: Stetson Bennett saves Kirby Smart, Dawgs vs. UAB

Bennett was underrecruited out of high school. His nickname comes from him wearing a USPS mail carrier hat as a means to standout at football camps and showcases. While Bennett did have several great moments last season for Georgia, he was replaced by Daniels once the former USC five-star was healthy enough to be under center. Keep in mind Georgia only played SEC teams.

So even if UAB is one of the better teams in Conference USA, Bennett destroyed the Blazers by way of the passing game. This gave Dawg Nation a huge sigh of relief after having not scored an offensive touchdown vs. Clemson last week. While Georgia is very much a defensive-oriented team, apparently, the offense we will see will look more like this than what we saw vs. Clemson.

After how things ended for him a season ago, what a game for Bennett to guide the Bulldogs.
