The Florida State football team may not win a game this year under head coach Mike Norvell.

If the Florida State football program has not hit rock bottom, Mike Norvell will be the head coach to drag them there.

Not even four games into his second year in Tallahassee, Norvell is feeling the heat as the head coach of the Seminoles. They are 0-3 on the season with a brutal last-second loss to FSC Jacksonville State. The ‘Noles may not win a game this year. If they cannot or are not interested in hiring Florida State legend Deion Sanders to replace him, who should the university be targeting?

Here are five head-coaching candidates who might be able to reclaim this sunken FSU ship.

Florida State football: 5 potential replacements for Mike Norvell as head coach

Jamey Chadwell’s Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are a beast in the Group of Five

Apparently, last year was no fluke for Jamey Chadwell and his Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. They are the best team in the Sun Belt and are once again a serious contender to make the New Year’s Six out of the Group of Five. While rebuilding Florida State is pretty much the lord’s work at this point, who had heard of Coastal Carolina prior to Chadwell’s arrival in Conway, South Carolina?

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Head Coach. 2369. UAB Blazers. Bill Clark. 4. player

If Bill Clark can rebuild UAB from the ashes, he can rebuild Florida State

Bill Clark is one of the most underrated head coaches in Division I. He took over a UAB Blazers program that was completely shut down by the university. It has not even been a decade since the first run of Blazers football folded, but Clark’s team is among the very best in Conference USA. It is the worst Group of Five conference, but if he can rebuild UAB, he can totally rebuild Florida State.

Dan Lanning. 3. player. 814. Pick Analysis. Georgia Bulldogs. Scouting Report. Defensive Coordinator

Dan Lanning will be a head coach somewhere next year, maybe Florida State?

While his allegiances to Norvell could knock him out of the equation entirely, Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning will be a Power Five head coach next year. He leads the most dominant unit in college football today. Going with a first-time head coach may be a bold strategy for Florida State, but they have to do something different. Lanning is a total dark horse, but he is ready for it.

Pick Analysis. Head Coach. 2. player. Scouting Report. Iowa State Cyclones. Matt Campbell. 837

Matt Campbell can stay at Iowa State forever if he wants to, but he has options

Matt Campbell has the Iowa State Cyclones nationally relevant for the first time ever. He can stay in Ames as long as he wants to, but we have to believe he is destined to lead a downtrodden blue-blood program at some point in his career. Though it may be at a Big Ten school, or potentially the vacancy at USC, Campbell would easily be one of the best coaches in the ACC upon his FSU arrival.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 1. player. 833. Head Coach. Kentucky Wildcats. Mark Stoops

Mark Stoops has Florida State ties prior to taking the Kentucky Wildcats job

As with Campbell, Mark Stoops can stay with the Kentucky Wildcats indefinitely. However, he has probably taken this program as far as it can go in the current SEC landscape. So if he want another challenge, or better yet, an opportunity to really show how good of a head coach he is, Stoops can come back to Tallahassee and make the Seminoles as good as it was when was with them before.

Florida State may wait another year, but the Seminoles do have several options outside of Norvell.
