J.D. Martinez crushes grand slam to blow ALCS Game 2 open (Video)
J.D. Martinez wasn’t about to let another big first inning opportunity fly by as the Red Sox slugger crushed a grand slam to open up ALCS Game 2.
After losing Game 1 of the ALCS, the Boston Red Sox needed a big answer on Saturday afternoon in Game 2. J.D. Martinez had the goods ready to answer.
Martinez came up in the top of the first inning with the bases loaded and was looking to make something happen. As he’s done so many times before, he put a good swing on the ball after working the count a bit.
And that good swing saw him launch a beautiful oppo-taco grand slam to give Boston a commanding 4-0 early lead in the contest.
J.D. Martinez gave the Red Sox a massive early advantage with his grand slam.
A night after Kiké Hernandez tried to play the role of hero, Martinez put his name in the hat for Game 2 of the ALCS.
What makes this even more crucial for J.D. Martinez and the Red Sox is how they started Game 1. Boston also loaded the bases in the first inning of that meeting as well but came up empty-handed. Considering that they lost 5-4, that loomed large in the aftermath.
But Martinez wasn’t about to let that opportunity fall by the wayside yet again. And the prolific power-hitter showed up big time in a huge spot.
If the Red Sox bats are going to stay this hot, that could bode extremely well for the Red Sox.
