The Houston Texans have a clutch sack on Kyler Murray called back for roughing the passer

The Houston Texans are playing the Arizona Cardinals surprisingly competitively. It is starting with pressure up front, making Kyler Murray uncomfortable, and getting sacks.

In the final two minutes of the first half, the Cardinals were driving the field, trying to get points on the board before the half. They were moving with ease until they entered the Texan’s side of the field. The Texans ramped up the pressure, and finally, Maliek Collins got loose up the middle and leveled Kyler Murray for a sack.

However, that sack would not count, as the refs immediately threw down flags on the play and tagged Collins with a roughing the passer penalty.

Was Kyler Murray hit illegal?

The flag may have come out because the hit appeared to be high on Kyler Murray. However, between Kyler Murray’s lack of height and what many have deemed him obviously ducking away from the hit, that reasoning seems flimsy at best.

The more likely reason for the refs throwing the flag was that Murray got hit hard, and it was immediately obvious that it hurt him. Murray had been struggling with an injury all game long, after taking a sack in his own endzone earlier in the game. His health has been a concern since then, and that concern likely prompted the flag on the hit.

The Arizona Cardinals are the last undefeated team in the league, and appear to be cruising to another easy win. They will elevate to 7-0 and sit comfortably on their throne atop the NFC.

Meanwhile, the Texans are still struggling with the fallout of this offseason, sitting at 1-5. They may have a better near future than many anticipated, but that future does not appear to start this week.
