Calvin Ridley will be stepping away from the Atlanta Falcons and football to take care of his mental health. That’s far more important than anyone’s fantasy football team.

Sunday afternoon, after surprising many with the news that he wouldn’t be playing against the Carolina Panthers so that he could address a personal matter, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley announced that he was stepping away from football to focus on his mental health.

Along with thanking his friends and family, Ridley expressed gratitude for the the Atlanta Falcons organization, his teammates, and fans as he made his announcement.

And of course, there were some who decided that their fantasy football team was somehow more important than Ridley’s health.

The simple truth is this: Ridley doesn’t have an obligation to anyone’s fantasy football team. He doesn’t owe anyone anything for that. He deserves the opportunity to make sure he takes care of himself.

Really, everyone does.

At the end of the day, fantasy football is just a game. It’s a way to get together with friends and make absurd bets. Maybe let’s remember that and start treating it as such.
