Some very interesting names are now following Oklahoma football head coach Lincoln Riley on Twitter. Will he leave for the LSU Tigers?

Who will be the next coach of the LSU Tigers? Will it be Lincoln Riley, the current head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners and the current potential coaching candidate who LSU message board members love?

Well, the rumors around Riley keep heating up and things will only continue to heat up as Riley has a few interesting followers on Twitter: some very notable LSU recruits and coaches.

As Dylan Sanders pointed out in a Tweet, both Will Wade and Jay Johnson, LSU’s men’s basketball coach and baseball coach respectively, are apparently following Riley on Twitter. That, along with some high-profile recruits following Riley, may not be an actual indicator of anything happening, but it shouldn’t just be ignored as nothing.

There are plenty of potential explanations for why they may be following Riley and it’s not totally clear when they started following the Oklahoma head coach, so it’s possible that this may mean nothing.

But there’s also a chance that there’s something going on here.

LSU coaching rumors: Will Lincoln Riley leave Oklahoma for LSU?

Riley to LSU would be an interesting move for all parties involved. As the head coach of the Sooners, it’s appeared as if he will always have the talent necessary to make it to the College Football Playoff in any given year. He’s also coaching a team that will be in the SEC in the relatively near future.

Riley has been a great coach with Oklahoma, but is it possible that he thinks LSU might be the sort of job that could help him finally claim a national championship? Although Riley’s teams have frequented the playoff and he’s coached some Heisman Trophy winners and candidates, a national title has eluded him since he took over at Oklahoma.

After all, both Les Miles and Ed Orgeron have been capable of winning national titles in Baton Rouge and Riley is almost certainly a better coach than both of them. Would Riley finally be able to win a title if he were coaching the Tigers rather than the Sooners?

If this move does happen, it’ll be interesting to see who Oklahoma would start targeting for its next coach. Where would the Sooners turn to replace one of the brightest minds in college football? With a job as good as Oklahoma, there’d be no shortage of potential suitors for the Sooners.
