Does Quinn Ewers’ transfer to Texas eliminate the Longhorns in the Arch Manning sweepstakes?

Amid the craziness of the coaching carousel craziness, news broke that quarterback Quinn Ewers was leaving Ohio State and entering the transfer portal. On Sunday, Ewers announced that he is  transferring to Texas to play under head coach Steve Sarkisian.

While Longhorns fans are celebrating arguably their biggest win of the year, they have to wonder if this will take the program out of the running for highly sought after quarterback recruit Arch Manning.

Will Quinn Ewers’ transfer take Texas out of the running for Arch Manning?

Even with Texas landing one of the biggest transfer players in the country in Ewers, that should not eliminate them from landing the commitment of Manning.

Manning will enter college football as a member of the class of 2023. That year, Ewers will be a junior and potentially in his second year as Longhorns starting quarterback. There is always the possibility that Ewers can declare for the NFL Draft as early as 2024, meaning that Manning could have the opportunity to become the Longhorns’ starting quarterback in his sophomore year.

That is all hypotheticals, because the final decision will come down to Manning as to where he wants to play. He has a ton of interested, high-profile schools looking to land his commitment, such as Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Ole Miss.

So long story short, Manning could still be on the radar for Texas despite adding the former No. 1 overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting class. Breath easy, Longhorns fans, you are not out of the Manning sweepstakes just yet.
