With the monster showdown between the Chiefs and Bills almost here, Andy Reid now has to deal with the news that linebacker Willie Gay was arrested on Wednesday night.

This is not what Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid wanted to wake up to on Thursday morning. In some truly disappointing news for the team, it has been revealed that linebacker Willie Gay was arrested late Wednesday night.

According to KVTV Kansas City, Gay was arrested in Overland Park at around 10:30 p.m. on charges of misdemeanor criminal damage. Gay, per KCTV, stayed overnight in jail while awaiting bond.

Willie Gay arrested late Wednesday night is terrible news for the Chiefs

TMZ Sports is reporting that Gay has a court date scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Obviously, this situation puts his status for the AFC Divisional Round game with the Buffalo Bills in question. According to Ian Rapoport, Gay’s rep Maxx Lepselter has come out and said that the arrest came after Gay was visiting his son and he got into an argument with the boy’s mother. Things then escalated and Gay ended up breaking a vacuum before leaving. The cops were then called and Gay was taken into custody soon after.

This is of course a bummer for Kansas City, as Gay has looked sharp when given extensive playing time and he looked strong in the Wild Card Round game going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In that win, Gay posted two solo tackles and a forced fumble.

The hope was that he’d be ready to fly off the outside to try and put heavy pressure on Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen when the two teams meet on Sunday night. This matchup between the Chiefs and Bills has what it takes to be one of the best games of the year, no doubt about that.

Following his arrest, Gay very well could end up missing the showdown. This is a developing story and one Kansas City fans will surely be following leading up to kickoff against Buffalo.
