Jermaine Burton clapped back at Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s remarks on him transferring from Georgia to Alabama.

Jermaine Burton responded to former Georgia star and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s harsh criticism over him transferring to Alabama.

While nobody seemed to have an issue with Burton hitting the transfer portal shortly after the Dawgs won their first national title in 41 years, his decision to link up with the team they just beat to win it all was controversial, to say the least. Though Alabama and Georgia are not annual SEC rivals, they are the two preeminent programs in their conference. So there is some bad blood here.

Hardman was clearly irked by the decision, but it is apparent that Burton is cool with all the smoke he is getting after turning heel. Here is his response to Hardman ripping him on social media for switching SEC allegiances.

“Why (does) it matter on who (does) agree? My career. Nobody else’s.”

Jermaine Burton claps back at Mecole Hardman’s criticism over Alabama transfer

From a perspective of getting drafted high, Burton is going from a former walk-on at quarterback in Stetson Bennett IV to 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young. Alabama has become Wide Receiver U over the last several seasons. Jameson Williams, John Metchie III and Slade Bolden could all be the next former Alabama greats at the wide receiver position at the NFL level.

While Burton has every right to transfer to wherever he wants to go, it is undeniable that this is a terrible look optically. There are a ton of Georgia alums in the NFL, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Keep in mind that Georgia returns a ton of firepower defensively next year, especially in its secondary. Burton may be a first-round pick after Alabama, but burning bridges are not ideal.

Alabama may welcome Burton to Tuscaloosa with open arms, but he has become persona non grata within Dawg Nation.
