Look, halftime shows with analysts are interesting. But halftime shows with analysts that are being drowned out by a polarizing pop-country hit? That’s worth watching.

Anyone who tried tuning into the CBS halftime show to get some professional thoughts on the AFC Championship Game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs got an interesting treat instead.

Rather than being able to actually listen to any of the thoughts presented by the CBS analysts at the game, everyone was audibly hammered with the Applebee’s song.

That’s right. Whether that’s good or bad is up to the individuals in the audience.

Walker Hayes’ inexplicable hit about suburban cuisine and “squeak-squeakin’ in the truck bed” dominated TikTok dance crazes and routinely became something of a conversation topic on Twitter over the past year. On Sunday, the song provided some absolute comedy as it overshadowed everything the CBS crew tried to say during the halftime show.

And predictably, the song that has been mocked and derided a million times on Twitter was quickly the center of sports Twitter once more.

Just check out this absurdity for yourself. It’s remarkable in the worst possible way.

Twitter sounds off as CBS halftime show was audibly smothered by Applebee’s song

And because it’s so comically awful, people LOVED it. Not because the song is inherently good, but because this was unexpected and unprecedented. It’s incredible. The whole moment, in its awkward brilliance, provided the perfect moment of levity that seemingly everyone needed.

Has anything quite like this happened before? This uncomfortable and comical situation seems so totally unique.

There’s no real way to visualize what happened. There’s no real good way to explain to something what happened. It’s something that must be experienced. You’ve got to watch the video to fully know how weird this moment was.

There is no escaping the dang Applebee’s song. There are only a few things that are certain in this life: death, taxes, and a “Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake.” It is all inevitable. We will all listen to this song until the end of time.

But at least the song provided a good laugh for everyone online. At least it’s got that going for it.
