3 teams that should trade for Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason
Jimmy Garoppolo is likely done with the San Francisco 49ers. These three teams should trade for him as their new starting quarterback.
The San Francisco 49ers went as far as they could with Jimmy Garoppolo under center this season and it ended with a disappointing loss in the NFC Championship Game to the Los Angeles Rams. Garoppolo, who has been playing hurt for a while, struggled to move the ball downfield and threw a game-icing interception in the final minute as the 49ers blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
Instead of getting ready to play the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl, the 49ers will now prepare to begin the Trey Lance era by trading Garoppolo away in the offseason. There will be a market for Garoppolo, who has shown he can be a winning quarterback in this league, and these three teams make the most sense.
3. The Washington Football Team would be a good fit for Jimmy Garoppolo
Attempting to find a quarterback for the soon-to-be-renamed Washington Football Team hasn’t been easy. Ryan Fitzpatrick was the intended solution this season but suffered a season-ending hip injury in Week 1, leading to a year of Taylor Heinicke under center that frustrated Terry McLaurin fantasy owners to no end.
Garoppolo would be an immense upgrade under center for Washington, which is only a year removed from winning the NFC East with a strong defense and competent quarterback play from Alex Smith. A trade for Garoppolo wouldn’t cost a ton in terms of draft capital and would buy the franchise time to find a long-term answer since the 2022 quarterback crop isn’t viewed as a particularly strong draft class.
