On Wednesday morning, things were made official and the Washington Football Team has made the transformation to the Washington Commanders.

The long wait is finally over for all your football fans in Washington D.C. That’s because your favorite NFL squad finally has a new name. On Wednesday, a new era has started in our nation’s capital, with the Washington Commanders being introduced.

With Washington unveiling its new team name and jerseys, there’s of course plenty of hype around this team right now. For the fans, they’re hoping this can be a fresh start and the squad can play as sharp as their new digs look starting next season.

The Washington Commanders have officially been introduced

For folks over in Washington, the Commanders name hasn’t come as much as a surprise, as some Twitter detectives were able to break the story on Tuesday. With that said, this is still an exciting time for the Commanders as a whole.

“As an organization, we are excited to rally and rise together as one under our new identity while paying homage to our local roots and what it means to represent the nation’s capital,” co-owner Dan Snyder said in a release. “As we kick-off our 90th season, it is important for our organization and fans to pay tribute to our past traditions, history, legacy and the greats that came before us.”

With this, the Washington Football Team is officially no more, and the Washington Commanders are ready to try and bring home an NFC East title home to FedEx Field in the near future. This past campaign, Washington saw Dallas grab the division title, but the Cowboys choked big time in the NFC Wild Card Round against the 49ers.

We don’t have to tell you that’s something Washington fans loved to see. Now, this group is ready to move forward. We’ll see how the Commanders fare next season, but again, people are jacked up about this new name.
