The Houston Texans are getting plenty of attention over the finalists for their head coaching vacancy. One in particular is being discussed thoroughly.
Somehow, some way, Josh McCown has apparently made it to being one of two finalists for a NFL head coaching vacancy.
McCown, who is most known for having played for a dozen different NFL franchises (typically as a backup quarterback) during a career that spanned from 2002 to 2020, has no head coaching experience at any level.
At the moment, it looks like McCown is a finalist for the job right alongside Brian Flores, who was recently the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
With those two names as the finalists, Houston has found a way to captivate everyone’s attention. It should be noted that Flores is considerably more qualified for the job than McCown is. And they are both finalists for the job.
Houston Texans: Twitter reacts as Josh McCown named in consideration for Texans head coaching position
Here’s how Twitter is reacting to that news.
Josh McCown’s coaching resume:

-Volunteer coach, Ridge High School
-Assistant coach, Rusk High School
He is now a finalist to become head coach of the Texans.
That is stunning.
The #Texans are either hiring Brian Flores as their next HC or they’re executing the most tone deaf HC search we’ve ever seen. #WeAreTexans

This whole situation is astonishing. Just absolutely astonishing. It’s worth pointing out that there is chance that McCown is a brilliant mind who could be a solid coach at some point, but the lack of experience is incredibly concerning.
The Houston Texans could hire Brian Flores and instantly have a Top 12 HC in the league and an incredible defensive mind to guide them back to relevance

Or they could hire Josh McCown and continue as the joke of the NFL
Real tough decision here #WeAreTexans #ThatFootballFeeling
Not sure how you can hire Jonathan Gannon or Josh McCown when you have a proven candidate in Brian Flores that is more than qualified for the job.

You would think it’s a no brainer based on the relationship Flores has with Nick Caserio and Jack Easterby.
Make it make sense.

A lot of people aren’t excited about this news. There’s very little to indicate that McCown might pan out to be the right hire.
At this POINT we just have to accept that it’s going to be Josh McCown.#wearetexans

I can’t explain how happy I’d be if Flores gets the job. And how devastated I’d be if McCown gets it.

While many aren’t exactly thrilled with the two reported finalists, some in Houston have taken to thinking McCown might be the right guy for the job despite all of the criticism and arguments made against hiring him.
I know I’m in the minority, but the Texans need a coach that can develop Davis Mills and Flores isn’t the guy. He’s a defensive coach, who would be better suited in New Orleans where he can get Watson. McCown is better suited for this job than Flores is. #WeAreTexans

Heck, even Torrey Smith seems to believe McCown might be a quality head coach.
#randomthought I know folks are going to crush the hiring process and question how a guy like Josh McCown can jump qualified coaches in the hiring process (As they should) but the reality of it is, he has head coach written all over him. Anyone that has been around him knows it.

It remains to be seen what the Texans will do to fill their head coaching vacancy, but it is stunning how McCown has made it this far in the process. Despite his lack of any real coaching experience, he’s got a shot at this head coaching job. Now the NFL world will wait to see what happens.
