The Tennessee Volunteers are taking on the Longwood Lancers in the NCAA Tournament.

In the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, the No. 3 Tennessee Volunteers are facing the No. 14 Longwood Lancers in Indianapolis.

While everybody knows how good Rick Barnes’ program is up on Rocky Top, this might be the first time casual college hoops fans have ever heard of Longwood. It is indeed a real university in a real place and does not have a rivalry with South Harmon Institute of Technology. What is cool about this first-round game is this is the Lancers’ first trip to the NCAA Tournament in school history.

For those about to submit their applications to Longwood University after surely the most glorious of March Madness upsets, where is Longwood University located?

Where is Longwood University?

Longwood University is located in Farmville, Virginia. It was founded in 1839 and has an enrollment of over 4,800 students. The Lancers won the Big South Tournament and get to play Tennessee today.  It is a sight to behold for the university best known as the Mother of Sororities. It is the birthplace of Kappa Delta, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Zeta Tau Alpha and Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Over the years, Longwood has produced several athletes in multiple sports. The Lancers’ most notable alumni include the late Jerome Kersey (Portland Trail Blazers), Michael Tucker (Kansas City Royals/Atlanta Braves) and Tina Barrett (LPGA). Musical artist Jason Mraz also spent time at Longwood.
