Hubert Davis quote after UNC’s OT win vs. Baylor goes viral
By Scott Rogust
The UNC Tar Heels overcame a blown 25-point lead, but ultimately defeated the Baylor Bears in overtime. Here is what head coach Hubert Davis had to say after the huge victory.
To say the UNC Tar Heels competed in a rollercoaster of a game is not hyperbole. The Tar Heels held a 25-point lead against the No. 1 Baylor Bears, the defending National Champions, and forced overtime. Yet, the Tar Heels made the most of their shots, and defeated the Bears 93-86 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
After the game, head coach Hubert Davis spoke with CBS Sports and talked about the aforementioned blown lead but closing things out in overtime to advance in the NCAA Tournament.

The Tar Heels looked as though they were going to close things out in the second half, but that was not the case.
Brady Manek, who had 26 points scored to his credit after shooting 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-8 from behind the 3-point line, was ejected from the game with a flagrant 2 foul. Since then, the momentum shifted in favor of Baylor. Eventually, the game was forced into overtime with both teams tied at 30 points apiece.
Perhaps the hero of the game was sophomore guard RJ Davis, who stepped up in overtime. With the Tar Heels up 88-85, Armando Bacot recovered a rebound after a missed three-point shot by Baylor’s James Akinjo. Davis drove to the basket, hit the layup and got the foul, resulting in a three-point play after he hit his shot from the charity stripe. That gave North Carolina a comfortable 91-85 lead.
With this victory, the Tar Heels advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the fifth time in their past six appearances. They await the winner of Saturday’s game between the No. 4 UCLA Bruins and No. 5 Saint Mary’s Gaels.
