There was no one more pumped to see the Texas Tech Red Raiders make it to another Sweet 16 than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are once again headed to the Sweet 16. They receive quite the challenge from the No. 11 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday, who held a 52-49 lead with a little over two minutes remaining, but the Red Raiders bounced back after four trips to the free-throw line and secured the win with a late dunk by Kevin McCullar to win 59-53.
Red Raiders fans have to be excited about the win, but there was no one more pumped on Twitter than school alum and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

With this victory, it is now the third time in five years that the Red Raiders have made it to the Sweet 16. In 2018, Texas Tech made it to the Elite Eight, losing to the Villanova Wildcats. In 2019, the Red Raiders made it all the way to the National Final, where they lost 85-77 in overtime to the Virginia Cavaliers.
Against Notre Dame, senior Kevin Obanor recorded 15 points (6-for-12 from field) and 15 rebounds to secure a double-double. Senior Bryson Williams and McCullar tied the team for second-most points with 14.
Texas Tech will now set their focus on their matchup against the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils. A win would not only a win secure the Red Raiders a spot in the Elite Eight, but the team will officially end Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski’s legendary career, as he is retiring once the Blue Devils’ season concludes.
