Coach K made NCAA Tournament history by becoming the first coach to pick up 100 wins in March Madness as Duke survived Texas Tech in a 78-73 win.

Trying to put an end to Mike Krzyzewski’s legendary coaching career isn’t going to be easy. The Duke Blue Devils, fresh off an impressive late rally to beat Michigan State on Sunday, worked hard down the stretch to outlast 3-seed Texas Tech 78-73 to advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

The Red Raiders’ impressive defense gave the Blue Devils fits early as they built a four-point halftime lead before going back and forth with Duke in the second half. A three-pointer from Kevin McCullar put Texas Tech up 68-66 with 3:19 to go but the Blue Devils closed the game on a 12-5 run to make some history for Krzyzewski in the process.

Coach K made March Madness history with this win

The victory was Krzyzewski’s 100th in the NCAA Tournament, making him the first coach to ever reach that historic plateau. While that mark was undoubtedly aided by the fact that the majority of Krzyzewski’s career has come after the tournament was expanded to 64 teams in 1985, it isn’t easy to win one game in March, let alone 100.

It also inspired some tremendous Twitter content.

The win also marked Duke’s first in the Pacific Time Zone during the NCAA Tournament, snapping an 0-5 skid that included three losses by double digits. The Blue Devils’ starting five scored 76 of the team’s 78 points, highlighted by a game-high 22 from freshman Paolo Banchero.

Duke is now on to the regional final on Saturday night where they will take on 4-seed Arkansas, which pulled off a massive upset over Gonzaga earlier in the night to secure their spot in the Elite Eight. The Razorbacks play a very physical brand of basketball that tripped up the Bulldogs, who didn’t have the perimeter play to make them pay, but Krzyzewski has to like that he won’t have to deal with a loaded Bulldogs roster in an attempt to make one last Final Four.
